Caring for Your Handmade Piece

Handmade textile pieces are durable, but they age best with a little routine care.

**Shedding is normal.** A new wool piece releases loose fibres for the first week or two. Vacuum gently on low suction or use a lint roller; do not pull loose strands — trim them level with scissors.

**Everyday cleaning.** Dust with a soft brush in the direction of the pile. For rugs, vacuum without a beater bar. Rotate wall pieces away from direct sun; strong light fades natural dyes faster than anything else.

**Spills.** Blot immediately with a dry cloth, never rub. Then dab with cold water and a drop of wool-safe detergent, working from the outside of the stain inward. Let it air dry flat, away from radiators.

**Never machine wash.** Water and agitation will felt the wool and can loosen the backing adhesive.

**Storage.** Roll, do not fold, with the pile facing outward, and store in a breathable cotton bag with a cedar block against moths.

**Repairs.** If a loop pulls out, push it back through from the front with a crochet hook or a drop of textile glue on the backing. Send me a photo any time — I can usually talk you through a fix, and I repair my own pieces gladly.
